At a glance

The Beijing flagship of a restaurant brand rooted in Taizhou, at Genesis Beijing on Xinyuan South Road. A modern Chinese dining room frames a menu built around the region’s cooking and East China Sea fish, with additional dishes specific to this location.[1] [2]

Cooking & identity

Taizhou cooking and East China Sea fish anchor the menu. MICHELIN also identifies a branch-specific young Peking duck that must be ordered ahead. The useful distinction is between the group’s ingredient-led identity and the dishes particular to this Beijing dining room.[1]

The restaurant’s stated philosophy

Paraphrased from the restaurant, its group or a named chef’s statement.

The group dates its beginning to a roadside restaurant in Linhai, Taizhou, on 1 October 1995. Its stated principle is to seek authenticity in food before pursuing beauty, supported by genuine ingredients, faithful flavour and sincerity. The brand describes Taizhou as its root as it expands to other cities.

Founder Rongshu’s account emphasises seeking flavours in different places, studying regional cooking and adapting it through his own understanding.

Independent observations

ChefsLanding · · Editorial commentary on the public record

A MICHELIN harvesting machine grown out of coastal Taizhou: while other restaurateurs celebrate picking up a star, Xin Rong Ji can make the business look wholesale. The more useful story is how a roadside restaurant’s attention to ingredients became a recognisable dining proposition far beyond its hometown.

We follow it for that ingredient judgement and the challenge of maintaining a regional identity as a brand grows. The stated pursuit of authenticity gives us a useful test: ingredients and cooking should carry the argument before the awards do. A wall of stars is impressive; the sea still needs to reach the table.
