At a glance

TRB Hutong is a contemporary international restaurant inside the historic Zhizhu Temple courtyard in Beijing. The room contrasts European minimalism with the temple’s Qing-dynasty setting. Executive Chef Lucas Garigliano cooks a French-rooted, modern menu; the restaurant has held one MICHELIN star in 2023–2027.[1] [2]

Cooking & identity

The cooking is French in training and contemporary in presentation: bold flavours, artistic plating and a menu designed for a special-occasion room. The temple setting is dramatic; the kitchen’s job is to keep the plate from becoming a postcard.[1] [2]

The restaurant’s stated philosophy

Paraphrased from the restaurant, its group or a named chef’s statement.

The official about page states the restaurant’s mission as contemporary international cuisine and the highest level of hospitality, with each meal turned into a memorable city getaway. It describes the temple courtyard as the frame for that experience.

The same page describes Lucas Garigliano’s style as “creative and authentic,” deeply inspired by French traditions and elevated with a modern twist. The MICHELIN Guide adds the one-star distinction.

Why this profile is included

Included through a MICHELIN star, a named Executive Chef and an official statement on the temple setting, contemporary international cooking and hospitality. No dated collaboration was verified for this batch; that does not mean none took place. No separate chef dossier is published because the cited public record does not provide enough career nodes.[1] [2]

Independent observations

ChefsLanding · · Editorial commentary on the public record

A historic temple is a spectacular dining room and a difficult one: the setting can overwhelm the food. TRB’s useful defence is a French-rooted kitchen with a clear point of view, not another “East meets West” speech.

The risk is special-occasion cooking: impressive once, less interesting on a return. We would follow the seasonal changes and the sauces, not the courtyard photographs.
