A researched professional record. Inclusion does not confirm representation, availability or interest in a new project.

At a glance

Bao Li Xuan is the Cantonese restaurant on the third floor of the historic Chamber of Commerce Shanghai building, next to The Bvlgari Hotel Shanghai. The room uses Art Deco details, turquoise silk wallpapers and Bvlgari jewellery sketches; the menu is Cantonese, led by Chinese chef Fu Wenbiao, with six private rooms and a walk-in wine cellar. The restaurant gained one MICHELIN star in 2020 and two in 2021.[1] [2]

Cooking & identity

The cooking is Cantonese with a luxury-hotel polish: premium ingredients, classical technique and a menu designed to work in both the main room and six private rooms. The art and jewellery references are part of the setting, not a substitute for the wok.[1] [2]

The restaurant’s stated philosophy

Paraphrased from the restaurant, its group or a named chef’s statement.

The official Bulgari page describes Bao Li Xuan through Cantonese food, fine ingredients, service and a room where Italian design meets Chinese craft. It names Fu Wenbiao as the Chinese chef behind the menu and records the 2020 one-star and 2021 two-star promotions.

The MICHELIN Guide adds the address and the two-star distinction.

Why this profile is included

Included through two MICHELIN stars, a named Chinese chef and an official Bulgari statement on the room, art and Cantonese menu. No dated collaboration was verified for this batch; that does not mean none took place. No separate chef dossier is published because the cited public record does not provide enough career nodes.[1] [2]

Independent observations

ChefsLanding · · Editorial commentary on the public record

A Cantonese restaurant inside a jewellery-brand hotel has a ready-made language of craft and luxury. The risk is that the language does the cooking. Bao Li Xuan’s useful defence is the wok and the private-room service, not the silk wallpaper.

The chef’s public biography is thin. That is not fatal, but it means the restaurant should be judged on the plate and the ten-year record, not on a founder myth it has not supplied.
